Different Teas

1. White Tea

White is produced really limited in Sri Lanka and China. The Special thing about White Tea is that the new buds are plucked before they open and allowed to dry. The buds have an silvery appereance. The produce a very pale, strwa-coloured tea with a finde, aromatic and mild charakter. It is used to be the Tea for Chines Employer. It is rare in Europe and really high priced.

2. Black Tea

The flavor of the Tea is the result of which region it comes and how the processing was made.
The leaves are plucked, washed, rolled and dried. From there they may find themselves partially ground into a tea bag or sold more or less whole. One of the most famous black Teas is the Earl grey, which is a sweet, perfumery bledn that gets its taste from the small of bergament oil.

3. Herbal Tea

As I already said, Herbal Tea is not real Tea because its not made by the acutual Tea Plant. Basically its a infusion of one or multiple herbs and/or spices. The are more healthy then other Teas because they dont't contain caffeine but minerals and vitamins instead. Best known herbal Teas are camomile, nettle and mint infusions.

4. Roiboss Tea

Roiboss Tea is made from the leaf and bark of a South African bush. Rooibos is choped, fermented and after max 24 it turns into red-brown colour. After that it dries. The taste is fresh-fruity and the same as in herbal Tea, but there is no coffeine in it.

Tea Regions

The most Tea producing areas are between the 40 degree north and 40 degrees south. The plant grows in subtropical climates or in tropical zones.

As an example China:

It is said that in China are 800 different types of tea, and 80% of the Tea, which is growing is Green Tea. A huge tradition of Tea in China is Floer Teas, mostly Jasmine Tea and other favourites are Rose, Lichee, Orchid and Osmanthus teas. The harvest of Tea beginns in April and lasts till Autumn. It is located in the South, because of the certain climate, soil and elevation are exellent conditions to grow high quality teas.
There is a long tradition of different shapes of tea, starting with the Tea bricks before Christ which was powerd to press tea in different forms, as an example tea is China sold as bricks, cakes, nests, roses or in biscuit form.

India

India is the biggest producer of black Tea. The tea is sold through auctions and than shipped via Calcutta, Bombay or Madras and all then all over world.
The harvest starts in April with the first flush and in July with the second flush but they are also in between teas in May/June and Autumn. The best known tea plantations are in Darjeeling and Assam (North) and Nilgiri (South).

Japan

Japan is a country with a Tea tradition for over 1500 Year, but they only produce Green Tea which is also mostly consumed there. Some of the best Japanese are protected from direct sunlight to make them grow slow, so they taste really different than the European Tea, so most people say japanese tea taste Fishy or tangy.

Africa

The Tea cultivation and tradition started in the 20th Century with all the British colonies there. Today the Tea in england is mostly brewed in Africa.

Tea and Health

Long stressful days, bad news, lack of exerciece, too heavy food that is high in fat and suger but low in fibre can all take its toll. TEa can be an option to take a break and catch your breath, but it can also mainly help to heart health and a part of your healthy diet and lifestyle.

That Tea can Help your heart health is acually true and based on studies from all around the world. They are finding that the some of the ingriedients in Tea may help towards maintaining a healthy heart. A national study of 1,746 woman in Saudi Arabia showed that tea drinkers are 19% less likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease that the other non-tea drinkers. Same in Holland where 806 men who consumed the biggest amount of catchensis ( a type of flavonoid) where less likely to die from a heart disease than the non-tea-drinkers.

There is still more research coming up to point that tea is a healthy option for your lifestyle.

The Tea Plant

The Tea plant is an evergreen of the Camellia Family, which is growing in China, Tibet and northern India. There are two varieties of the plant. The small one is called camellia sinesis, thrives in mountain regions of China and Japan. The bigger one is called Camellia assamica, grows best in the tropical climates in Northeast India and the Szechuan and unnan provinces of China. The plant produces dark green, shiny leaves and small, white blossoms.

First of all- What is Tea?

Basically is Tea a plant. Everthing which is called Tea,comes from the same leafes of the plant, Camellia sinensis. It doesn't matter if the tea is green, white tea, oolong or black tea, which are the most common teas found on the market. The difference of the tea type is the processing and the harvest of the leaves.
But it would be techinally wrong to say herbal teas, fruit teas or rooibos tea, because they are no real teas, but today nobody really makes a difference between them. But as long as somthing is brewed out of fruit, leaves, barks, roots or something like those it is called tea.
After water, tea is the most worldwide-consumed drink on the world.

Where does Tea come from?

Tea was first brought to Europe by Dutch traders, who came into cantact with the trough Chinese traders in Java, who came from the southern part of Amoy, which is Xiamen today. In Chinese Tee means Cha, but all the other European countries, with an exaption of Portugal and Russia bought the name for the Tea from the Dutch. So in most of the European languages the word for Tea is pretty similar.
With the Overland the Tea came to all the other parts of the world.
Thats the explaning why the Expression "a cup of Cha" is still use in Britain and Ireland. It seems to go back to the beginnings.
